Issue:

How do I use AR BookGuide to create labels for books that I now have access to Accelerated Reader quizzes for since switching from an Accelerated Reader service subscription to an Accelerated Reader Enterprise subscription?

Reason:

If you recently switched from an Accelerated Reader service subscription to an Accelerated Reader Enterprise subscription, you now have access to all Accelerated Reader quizzes. If you label your books with Accelerated Reader quiz information, any books in your school library that have a matching Accelerated Reader quiz that you did not previously own an Accelerated Reader quiz for will need to be labeled. If you already labeled the books that you previously purchased quizzes for, there is no need to print labels for all books, only those titles that you gained access to with Accelerated Reader Enterprise.

Resolution:

Follow the steps below to use AR BookGuide to create Accelerated Reader book labels for quizzes that you did not previously own but now have access to with Accelerated Reader Enterprise:

1)    Import your library’s MARC record into AR BookGuide to mark the books that you own. If you have already imported a current MARC record into AR BookGuide, you can skip this step. Refer to the AR BookGuide Software Manual for steps to import a MARC record file.

2)    If you have not done so already, mark the Accelerated Reader quizzes that you previously purchased while using a service subscription as owned in AR BookGuide. There are two ways to do this:

·         If you recently switched to Renaissance Place from the Desktop Accelerated Reader application (version 5.x or 6.x) and you still have your Desktop application data, create an AR BookGuide export file containing your quiz information and import it into AR BookGuide to mark the quizzes that you own. Refer to the AR BookGuide Software Manual for steps to create and import an Accelerated Reader 5.x to 6.x AR BookGuide export file.

·         If you have been using Renaissance Place and just recently switched from an Accelerated Reader service subscription to an Enterprise subscription, contact Renaissance Learning Customer Support. To contact customer support, call 800-338-4204 or e-mail download@renlearn.com. We will mark your owned quizzes in AR BookGuide based on our quiz purchase records.

Note: If you indirectly purchased any quizzes from book publishers, we may not have a complete record of all owned quizzes.

3)    After you have marked your own quizzes in AR BookGuide or had Renaissance Learning mark the quizzes for you, create a new Book List in AR BookGuide to add all titles that you have matching books for but did not previously own quizzes for. To create a new Book List, log in to AR BookGuide and go to “List Management”. Click on “Create List”. Provide a name for your list and click on the [Save] button.

4)    Use the advanced search feature to search by book and quiz ownership status. Select have “Reading Practice” (No) and have “Book” (Yes). The results should show only those new quizzes that are now available with AR Enterprise that match the books that you own. Be sure that the name of your new list appears in the drop down menu above your search results and click on the link to “Add All Results to List”.

5)    Generate a Book Label Report from the results in your Book List and print labels. To access the Book Label Report, click on “View List” and then click on the “Book Labels” link. If you are having difficulties getting the text to align correctly on your labels, see Knowledge Base article # 4214766.

As an Accelerated Reader Enterprise customer, after you create your book labels, there is no longer any reason to have your owned quiz titles marked in AR BookGuide because you have access to all Accelerated Reader quizzes. If you would like your Accelerated Reader quiz ownership status removed after creating labels, please contact Renaissance Learning Customer Support. Also since you now have access to all Accelerated Reader quizzes, as you search for quizzes in AR BookGuide going forward, you will want to search for all available quizzes regardless of quiz ownership status. For example, If you are looking for a list of Accelerated Reader quizzes that are available to you that you own books for, select have “Reading Practice” (Any) and have “Book” (Yes). Selecting have (Any) will display search results for all quizzes regardless of whether or not they are marked as owned.
