Issue:
How do I export my list of quizzes in HTML or text format
from Accelerated Reader Renaissance Place?
Reason:
There is an option to export all Accelerated
Reader quizzes as an AR BookGuide Export file (.exp) directly from Accelerated
Reader Renaissance Place. This file can be used to update AR BookGuide with
quiz ownership information. This file can also be saved and used as a text
(.txt) file. However, there currently is not an option to export as HTML in
Accelerated Reader Renaissance Place. If you are using AR BookGuide 3.0, there
is an option to export as HTML and sort by title, author’s last name, quiz
number, and book level. If you are not using AR BookGuide 3.0, you have two
options to transfer Accelerated Reader quiz information to your website:
1) Export
your quiz list as an AR BookGuide Export file directly from Accelerated Reader
Renaissance Place and convert it to an HTML file via another program such as
Microsoft Excel.
2) Generate
a Quiz List report in Accelerated Reader, save the .pdf file, and post it to
your website.
Note: There is an option to
print book labels in Accelerated Reader Renaissance Place and the desktop
version, as well as AR BookGuide versions 2.6 and 3.0. However, if the format
is not correct for your specific printer, you may need to export the quizzes in
text format and use a label program to create book labels. For this purpose,
you can also export a list of your quizzes directly from Accelerated Reader
Renaissance Place (AR BookGuide Export file). Also see
KB article #4317941
if you want to use this export file to import quiz information into AR
BookGuide.
Resolution:
If you would like an HTML quiz list, the file that is
exported directly from Accelerated Reader Renaissance Place,
ARRPBookGuideExport.exp, can be manipulated and changed into an HTML file by
opening it with a program such as Microsoft Excel, making any necessary
changes, and saving it as an .html file. Follow the steps below to export your
quiz list and convert it into HTML format.
Step 1- Create the Export File
1)
Log in to Renaissance Place.
2) Click
on the Accelerated Reader “Manage Quizzes” link.
3)
Click on the “AR BookGuide Export” link.
4) Click
on the [Export] button.
5) Click
on the “Download” link and save the file to your desktop, keeping the default
name of ARRPBookGuideExport.exp.
6) Close
the Download Complete, then click on [Done].
Step 2- Use Another Program to Convert the File into HTML Format
1)
Right click on the ARRPBookGuideExport.exp file on your
desktop and select “Open With”.
2)
Choose a program that is capable of modifying and converting
the file into HTML such as Microsoft Excel.
3)
Make any necessary changes to the file and save it as an
.html (webpage) file.
Tips for Creating an HTML Quiz List:
1) Changes that can be made to the AR BookGuide Export
file in a program such as Microsoft Excel include: removing columns and rows of
information that you do not wish to include on your website, adjusting the
formatting and sorting the information differently.
2) Microsoft Excel is capable of opening a file that
contains 65,536 or fewer rows. If you own over 65,529 quizzes (Extra rows are
needed for header space) or if you are an Accelerated Reader Enterprise
customer, who has access to over 100,000 quizzes, you will not be able to open
your entire file in Excel. When opening the file, the message “File not loaded
completely” will appear and only the first 65,536 rows of data will load into
the spreadsheet.
3) If your AR BookGuide Export file contains over
65,536 rows, you can break down the file by opening it with a text editing
program such as Notepad. Divide the rows of the ARRPBookGuideExport.exp file
into two or three separate files and save each of them. Afterwards, the files
can be opened and manipulated in Excel to create HTML files.
Note: If you previously used the AR BookGuide Export
Utility to create an HTML or text quiz list, this utility is no longer
supported for Accelerated Reader 7.5 / Renaissance Place 4.0, Release 0803. If you
have Renaissance Place 4.0 installed, you will be able to access the ‘Welcome
Page’ for the utility but you will not be able to log in. The message “AR not
purchased yet” will appear on the bottom of the screen.
If you would like to remove the webpage for this utility, it
can be uninstalled from Windows add/remove programs on your server. The program
is listed as ARExports. This will completely remove the virtual directory from
your website and users will no longer be able to access the webpage.
If Renaissance Learning hosts your website and you currently
have this utility installed, attempting to access this utility (typing your
hosted Renaissance Place web address followed by /ARExports) will now bring up
a webpage that refers you to this Knowledge Base article for further
information on creating an HTML quiz list.
HTML export
functionality may be added to a future release of Accelerated Reader
Renaissance Place.
