Issue:
When
students test in STAR Early Literacy and the Pretest Instructions preference is
enabled, they hear the instructions but do not see the video. Instead, a large
white box appears in the center or lower right, or the display is all black.
Reason:
This issue may occur if QuickTime® 7.1.3 or above has been
installed.
Resolution:
You must enable a setting in QuickTime 7 to allow Flash
track viewing and QuickTime exporting. (Flash refers to Adobe’s Shockwave Flash
Object, or .swf, file format.)
Windows
1)
Choose StartàSettingsàControl
Panel.
2)
Double-click the QuickTime Control Panel.
3)
Select the Advanced tab.
4)
Under Media Types, check the option to “Enable playback Of
Flash tracks”.
5)
Close the QuickTime Control Panel.
Macintosh OS X
1)
Open System Preferences in the Apple menu.
2)
Double-click QuickTime in the Internet & Networking
section.
3)
Select the [Advanced] tab.
4)
Check the option to “Enable Flash”.
5)
Close the QuickTime Control Panel.
After making the change in QuickTime, re-open STAR Early
Literacy Student.
Note: If you are using QuickTime version 7.3.1 or
above, Flash track viewing is completely disabled and there is no option to
enable it. You will need to uninstall QuickTime and reinstall an earlier
version. Refer to article #5783767 on
QuickTime versions for Renaissance Learning products.
As a work-around you can disable the Pretest Instructions
preference.
1)
Log into STAR Early Literacy Management as the administrator.
2)
Click on [Preferences].
3)
Select Pretest Instructions and Keyboard or Mouse Training and
click the [Edit] button.
4)
In the Pretest Instructions box, select the option to
"Never present to any student."
5)
Click [OK] to save this change.
