MathFacts in a Flash Renaissance Place 2.0

MathFacts in a Flash Renaissance Place 3.1 has been enhanced in the following ways:

Installer/Components

1)    Renaissance Place 4.1 is compatible with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. During a new install, SQL Express will be installed if neither SQL Server 2000 nor SQL Server 2005 are present. If you are already using the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE) and would like to upgrade to Express Edition, contact Renaissance Learning Technical Support.

2)    School Interoperability Framework (SIF) 2.0 certified.

Renaissance Place

1)    Import/Export functionality has been enhanced to allow you to select your matching criteria prior to the import, ensuring only appropriate students are automatically merged. Clicking the “Merge Candidates” button will show students that were not an exact match but have some matching information.

2)    Enhancements to student merge for students with data for Accelerated Reader, English in a Flash, and MathFacts in a Flash.

3)    Students and their records can be permanently deleted from the Renaissance Place database. This is helpful to remove students who have graduated or are no longer enrolled in your district. In previous versions of Renaissance Place, students with records could only be inactivated and their data remained in the database.

Note: Before selecting the option to “Permanently remove students and their records” from the Edit Multiple Students page, be sure future access to their data is not required, as this feature will remove the students’ personal information as well as any application data from the database.

Assignment Book

1)    The Alternate forms levels are off by default for classes created after installing or upgrading to version 3.1. These levels are still available in the software but students will not see them as they are working. Teachers can easily add any of these 10 levels by clicking the “Add/Remove” link under Manage Levels in the Assignment Book.

2)    Numerous enhancements and formatting changes were made to the practice worksheets and flash cards.

Student Application

1)    The font size of all student pages has increased to be more like the Accelerated Reader student pages.

2)    When a student aborts a test, a TOPS report will now print. The report will show a symbol next to the level number, and the footer will indicate the test or practice was not completed.

Other

A NEO 2 SmartApplet is now available to allow students to use their NEO 2s

to work in MathFacts in a Flash. See KB article #7684191 for more information.

MathFacts in a Flash Renaissance Place 3.0 has been enhanced in the following ways:

Installer/Components

1)    Support for Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0. During the upgrade to Renaissance Place 4.0, release 0803, the web site used by Renaissance Place will be updated to use .NET 2.0.

2)    Improved Active Directory Authentication

Renaissance Place

1)    The Check Software Requirements page has been redesigned to verify each of the required components is installed and working properly.

2)    The Download Client Application Installers link under Product Administration was renamed to Download Supporting Software, and the link now opens the Check Software Requirements page in a new browser window.

3)    Changes have been made to the header and layout of all Renaissance Place web pages. Note that all header navigation links are now on the second row and that the page titles, such as Assignment Book, are on the page rather than left-justified in the header.

4)    Consolidation was reviewed and has been updated to provide optimal performance.

5)    New school years can now be set by a district administrator for all schools, not requiring each school administrator to log in and set it separately.

6)    The Assign Products link has been added to the View Courses page to assign products to multiple classes simultaneously.

7)    Two new security options allow you to remove the Parent link from the Welcome page, and hide the “Find User Name” link on the student login page.

8)    Additional alerts have been added to the Home page depending on the state of your software:

·         License Agreement - An alert will appear for administrators immediately after an upgrade or new install to view and agree to the software license. (The Download Software Updates link has been removed from the Product Administration section of Renaissance Place.)

·         Updates - An alert will appear for administrators anytime we have a cumulative patch or high-priority fix available (only if connected to the Internet).

·         Parent Requests - An alert will appear for the administrator anytime one or more parents have requested access to Renaissance Place; these alerts are updated nightly.

·         Subscription - An alert will appear for all school- and district-level users once an active subscription is within 90, 60, 30, 15 and 0 days from a subscription end date. (The subscription alert was also available in Renaissance Place 3.2 with Cumulative Patch 2.)

9)    Search results will now show up to 50 items per page so there are fewer pages to click through.

Application/User Interface

1)    New! Renaissance Home Connect allows students to take MathFacts in a Flash practices and tests from home, if their school has an Accelerated Math Enterprise license and a MathFacts in a Flash Service subscription license. (Work done at home does not count toward mastery at school.)

2)    In order to give students more practice and help them master math facts more quickly, practices have been updated to include a minimum of 20 questions.

3)    The TOPS report preference was changed to prevent students from receiving TOPS reports after a practice or test, and again at the end of the practice or test session.

4)    This release adds better tracking of when students are working in MathFacts in a Flash, to prevent students from seeing the alert stating, “This student is already logged in” when the student has finished worked, exited the program normally, and is trying to take another practice or test. This should also prevent students from seeing “Level undefined” when trying to work.

5)    A change was made in the software so if the workstation briefly loses connection to the Internet at the time a student is finishing a practice or test, the results should still be saved. If this occurs the student will see "Loading Results, Please Wait..." until the reconnection is made. (If a connection cannot be made within two minutes, the results will not be saved.)

6)    The MathFacts DetectPlugin page was updated. When students log in and click on “Start Working”, the software will check the TOPS preference for the class. If TOPS printing is enabled for either practices or tests, the Print Plug-In will be required. If TOPS printing is disabled for both practices and tests, the Print Plug-In is not required.

Content Levels

There are now 62 levels available for students to work on.

1)    In order to give students further practice on basic math facts, alternate format levels have been introduced. These levels appear directly before review levels for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. (In an alternate format, the number in an equation that a student needs to fill in will vary.)

2)    Based on customer feedback, multiplication and division levels were grouped to be more similar to the addition and subtractions levels and only include two numbers.

3)    Multiplication and division by 11 and 12 were split off into their own levels so teachers who do not require multiplication and division by 11 and 12 can remove these levels.

4)    Three new levels were added for percentages.

Reports

1)    All of the MathFacts in a Flash reports were reviewed and updated to a format that is consistent across all Renaissance Place application reports.

2)    A new Student Record Report has been added to give teachers a report that shows student progress on their current level as well as all levels the student has mastered.

3)    The Class Progress Report was updated to include a “School Days Since Last Session” calculation.
