I am receiving error "1155: File INSTMSIW.EXE or INSTMSIA.EXE not found".

Issue:

 

I am receiving error “1155: File INSTMSIW.EXE or INSTMSIA.EXE not found”.

 

Reason:

 

You may see this error when trying to install the Microsoft .NET Framework, your browser-based application(s), or desktop application(s). You may also receive the following error:

 

“This installation package cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service. You must install a Windows service pack that contains a newer version of the Windows Installer service.”

 

Resolution:

 

Upgrade your Windows Installer on your workstation or server.

 

If you are on Windows 2000, download INSTMSIW.EXE from the page below:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=4b6140f9-2d36-4977-8fa1-6f8a0f5dca8f&displaylang=en

 

If you are on a Windows 98 or ME system, download INSTMSIA.EXE from the page below:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=cebbacd8-c094-4255-b702-de3bb768148f&DisplayLang=en - filelist

 

Once you have upgraded your Windows Installer service, you will then be able to complete the Microsoft .NET Framework, browser-based or desktop application installation successfully.
