STAR Early Literacy Updates

Resolution:

STAR Early Literacy 1.51

STAR Early Literacy 1.5

STAR Early Literacy 1.01b

STAR Early Literacy 1.01a

STAR Early Literacy 1.01

STAR Early Literacy 1.51 has been enhanced in the following ways:

1)     QuickTime has been updated to version 7.0 on the CD and when installing the application.  QuickTime 7.0 or later is available for MAC OS 10.2.8 or higher and Windows 2000/XP or higher.  For other available QuickTime versions, please see article #5783767.

2)     Summary Report will now display the Literacy Domain Score Distribution for all classes with default options.

3)     Due to the required QuickTime 7.0 change, only workstations with MAC OS 10.2.8 or higher can be used to run STAR Early Literacy.

This update is available from our Download Center. For upgrade instructions, please see article #2447571.

STAR Early Literacy 1.5 has been enhanced in the following ways:

1)     This update will allow STAR Early Literacy to be run natively on a Macintosh OS X workstation. For specific information on supported versions of OS X, see KB article #2446510.

2)     Default answer mode changed to Keyboard Entry: Students will use the 1,2,3 and Enter keys by default rather than the mouse to take the STAR Early Literacy test, as they do in STAR Reading. They will use the “L” key to listen to the question again. The mouse can still be selected for student testing through a preference in the management program.

3)     Updated documentation and pre-test instructions: These have all been updated to reflect the default keyboard entry.

4)     New Keyboard Training pre-test instructions: Students will view a brief video within the student program to learn how to use the 1,2,3, L, and Enter keys to take the test.

5)     Increased the number of items on the item exclusion list for students below grade 1 to prohibit more items requiring independent reading from being administered to those younger students as in STAR Early Literacy RP 3.0.

STAR Early Literacy 1.01 has been enhanced in the following ways:

1)     Addresses slow editing of student information in large databases, which sometimes caused the program to freeze or take several minutes to return to the list of students.

2)     Addresses situations in which the STAR Early Literacy student program used 100% of the central processing unit’s time.

3)     The program now allows class and teacher names up to 69 characters, including spaces and hyphens.

4)     The Administrator login is now able to view historical data, even when the Historical Data preference is disabled.

5)     The STAR Early Literacy Technical Manual is included on the CD-ROM in .pdf format.
