Issue:
I have a Novell Netware® server with Windows workstations
and I keep getting Fatal Error (69, 16022, 16034, 16040, 16041), black screens,

Resolution:
Both of these error messages are good indicators that your
program database is damaged. When you run Renaissance Learning software on a
Novell NetWare network, this corruption typically results from file caching.
Beginning with the release of the latest network services of Virtual Loadable
Modules (VLMs), and continuing with the NetWare Client 32 for Windows 95 and
above, Novell added a variety of configuration options for balancing network
performance and transmission integrity. Changing the settings in favor of
performance (speed) rather than data integrity may result in file corruption in
database programs running across a network. After resolving the cause of the
problems by following the instructions below, you must also perform
Maintenance, Rebuild, or Data Doctor on your program’s data files. For more
information, please refer to the instruction manual that came with your
software program.

Very Important Note:
You only need to check the Advanced Settings parameters listed below.
For Windows 95/98/ME Users:
To determine the kind of network service that is installed
on your workstation, follow these steps:
1) Click the [Start]
button on the Taskbar; then, select Settings
and Control Panel.
2) Double click

If Novell NetWare Client is listed, we suggest that you
edit its configuration settings. Click once on the Novell NetWare Client icon,
and click the [Properties] button. Then, click on the Advanced Settings tab.
The Novell 32 Bit Client contains numerous configuration
options for enhancing performance and data integrity in various network
environments. We recommend using the settings listed below to provide the best
network performance while minimizing opportunities for data corruption.
Although some of these options may be set correctly, you should check each one
to ensure proper operation.

For DOS and Windows 3.11 Users:
To determine if your workstation uses a VLM, type MEM /C /P at a DOS prompt. If VLM.Exe
is listed, you will need to edit your Net.Cfg file configuration. The Net.Cfg
file is normally located in the same directory as your network card drivers. If
you do not know its location, you can find it by following these steps:
1) While working in
DOS, type CD \ at the C: prompt.
2) Type DIR Net.Cfg /S /P to display all of the
directories where the Net.Cfg file is found. If you do not know which Net.Cfg
file is the correct one, you may need to edit all of them.
3) Type Copy Net.Cfg Net.ALS to make a backup
copy of the original file.
4) Using the
suggested settings below, edit the Net.Cfg file by adding or altering the appropriate
parameters.
The NetWare DOS Requester section contains numerous
options for configuring network transmission performance and integrity. We
recommend using the following settings to provide the best network performance
while minimizing opportunities for data corruption. Although some of these
options may be set by default, you should check each one to ensure proper
operation. Note that the suggested settings in bold type are different from the
default settings.
Keep in mind that the following changes must be made to
the Net.Cfg file in the Netware DOS Requester section
located on each workstation that you use to run the Renaissance Learning
program. The Net.Cfg file is generally located in the same directory as the
network card drivers. You can use most editors (such as DOS Edit or Windows
Notepad) to revise this file.
After you make these changes, save the Net.Cfg file, and
restart the workstation. Repeat this process for each workstation that you use
to run the Renaissance Learning program.
