The Knowledge Base search options help you specify the
information you need:
Keywords
In this field type in a few words that relate to the information you need
(keywords).
"Keyword Search" vs. "Specific
Article Number"
By default, "Keyword Search" is selected. If you know the ID number for the
article you need, you can click on "Specific Article Number" and type the
number in the text box labeled Keyword or article number.
Any Word
If you choose "Any Word" and you enter more than one word, the Knowledge Base
will search for articles that include any (not necessarily all) of the words
you type. For example, if you need guidelines for getting ready for a new
school year, you could type the words school and year. However,
the Knowledge Base might find other articles that include the word school
but don't relate to setting up the school year.
All Words
If you choose "All Words," the search will find articles that contain all
of the words you typed. The words do not necessarily need to be next to each
other in the article.
Exact Phrase
If you choose "Exact Phrase," the search will find articles that contain
the exact phrase you've typed. Articles that contain all of the words but don't
contain the phrase will not be listed in the search results.
Using Phrases with All or Any words
If
you put quotes around the words you type, the Knowledge Base will search for
the exact phrase in quotes. For example, if you type "school year" the
Knowledge Base will only search for articles that include that phrase; articles
that just include the word school will not be listed. Quoted phrases can
be mixed with unquoted. For example, if you type the following 3 words like:
"school year" upgrade, the Knowledge Base will find a phrase of "school
year" and if All Words was chosen, upgrade
will need to be found as well, but if Any Word was chosen, either "school
year" or upgrade will
qualify.
Product, Platform, and Category
To search for information on a particular product, platform, or category, click
on the drop-down menu and select the item you want to search for. The Knowledge
Base will search for articles that include these selections and the
keywords you enter in the "Search for" field. For example, if you select Accelerated
Reader 5.x in the Product menu, and you type "school year" under
"Search for," the Knowledge Base will find articles that include both "school
year" and Accelerated Reader 5.x.
Include Excerpts
When "Include Excerpts" is checked, the search results will include the
beginning of each article. If you do not want to see excerpts from articles in
the search results, click in this box to remove the check.
When you're ready to search,
press the Enter key or click the "Go!" button.
